Use a custom highlight color in macOS

The highlight color is used in different UI elements of the macOS applications, from the Finder folders to the address bar of Safari.

Solution #1
  1. Open the System Preferences
  2. Select the General tab
  3. Click on the Highlight Color list
  4. Click on Other... and select your custom color

$ defaults write NSGlobalDomain AppleHighlightColor -string "0.764700 0.976500 0.568600"

The highlight color is defined using its three RGB components in floating point notation (each component ranges from 0 to 1).
